One of our favorite parts of what we do is selecting the ARP Horse Show Photo of the Day. We choose one photo of the day from each show we are currently covering to share with our followers on Facebook and Instagram.

We have an excellent team of talented photographers who excel at their job, so there are hundreds of photos taken every day that deserve to be featured. This is especially true at our current venue - the revolutionary World Equestrian Center in Ocala, Florida.

So how do we choose just one photo each day to share? Check out a few favorite candidates so far and learn a little bit more about our process below!

The Selection Process

As they sort through the photos taken each day in the office, our team is always keeping an eye out for an especially eye catching photo that might work well for the photo of the day. These photos are copied into a separate folder to be reviewed later by our team.

Once the show is finished for the day, the team takes a look at what photos were pulled into the photo of the day (POTD) folder. There is usually a good mix of hunter, jumper, and candid photos to choose from. For a competition jumping photo, there are a few things we usually look for: horse’s ears forward, eyes open, braided manes (especially for a hunter shot), riders wearing a hunt coat and a photo that compliments both horse and rider. A hunter with lovely knees and a happy expression over an oxer, an action packed jumper splicing a vertical in a jump off, or a candid of someone hugging their pony after a great round are all examples of the great options we have every day.

The last thing we consider is what has already been shared recently. We try to have a healthy variety of photos that our social media audience (you!) will enjoy seeing. Because of that, we generally mix up the type of photo that is shared every day. One day may have a beautiful jump photo from a 2'6" derby, the next an adorable pony candid, and the following a Grand Prix shot under the night sky. We also try to mix up what arenas have a photo featured each day too, if possible, as well as the color of the horse to keep things interesting.

The Horse Show Photo of the Day has been a favorite of ARP followers and team for several years now. Lots of thought is put into selecting the perfect photo to show everyone, and the team often votes for their favorites when there are too many beautiful shots to choose from. We love sharing these photos each day, and we hope you enjoy viewing them just as much!

Just a reminder - Andrew Ryback Photography is the official show photographer of the World Equestrian Center - Ocala Winter Spectacular show. We have had three fantastic weeks covering every over fences round, in every ring, every day, and we can't wait to do the same in week four and beyond! Be sure to stop by the trailer, which is located between Ralph's and the Stadium arena, to view your photos or book a portrait session while you are there. You can also visit our website to order photos online at www.andrewryback.com. See you in the ring!
